A long distance love affair
It has been 19 days since my return from Newfoundland. I am over 4800 km from St. John's. I'm in a climate that is much different. My native accent has a much thicker twang when I'm in Texas. I have returned to a job that I love, working with grade 9-12 students that have emotional/behavioral challenges. I have a wonderful life.
My holiday this summer has opened my eyes to a different perspective. My thoughts and dreams are more focused in a new realization, that I have a second home that I love and she loves me. While relaxing last night Wezie asked me, "how is everyone in Newfoundland?' I just smiled and said "well" she then asked, "when are we going back?" All I could think about were the lines from "When Harry Met Sally",
"I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."
Today we had meet the teacher at my school. I was greeted by former students, current students, staff members, parents, and even a school board member who all said the same thing, "Wow, I enjoyed following your travels this summer. Newfoundland looks incredible. I am somewhat envious. You are somewhat famous."
I would smile and say thank you. I would then say, "It is the people of Newfoundland who are the real story. Their incredible love and kindness for three strangers from Texas was BEST KIND." I love retelling our incredible adventures. The happenstance of every detail was amazing.
A business partner once told me, "Every successful relationship is more than 50/50. It is more like 75/75. When you demonstrate that you are willing to go above and beyond the halfway point, happiness is multiplied by two." I am a 56 year old husband, dad, and Special Education teacher. I am nothing out of the ordinary, but you have made me feel very special. Thank you. I hope to do my 75% in this relationship.
Blessings of Peace and Love to a troubled world.

What a wonderful quote! This should be adopted in EVERY aspect of life when there are people involved. 75/75 instead of 50/50. Simple words and very very true! Thank you for that - I will take that along on my journey. Last night I had a late night supper with family and friends at Mussels on the Corner on Water Street. We chatted with two young ladies from Ontario. They said it was their very first time in Newfoundland and one of them said I have already told my husband we are moving here, lol. They take a flight this morning to their home. So I told them thrilled they enjoyed their trip and they are welcome to come "home" anytime. :)
